Here's the quick & dirty install script I wrote. I ran into a few additional glitches, but I'm using Trisquel which is a modified version of Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. I suppose that this is more or less the same to get it working on Ubuntu 14.04 64 bit. I hope this helps someone, and I wish VMware would have done this work for us. I have a nasty feeling that USB redirection will not work, since I have never gotten that to work on Ubuntu 64 bit, but you can test that for yourself. I got one error when starting the client, that my ssl lib was old, but according to Ubuntu it is patched, so it does not need to be version 1.0.0i. There was no icon for it so I ran the command vmware-view from the command line, and then locked the icon to that task bar. Ln -sf /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libcrypto.so.1.0.0 /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libcrypto.so.1Īfter this my scan reported no errors, and I was able to start the Horizon View Client.

Turns out that there are a lot when you are running 64 bit.Īfter a lot of work and realizing that google for once was no help what so ever, I found that the following worked. I enabled everything in the wizard, and at the end of the installation you are able to scan for missing dependencies. I installed that package using these commands in the catalog I downloaded the package to. Just to be absolutely clear I used this package.

I finally that decided to publish a generic client for Linux on the website, so that is a good thing. Seams like VMware has very limited support for Horizon View client on Ubuntu when it comes to 64 bit, and to be honest I find that VERY DISAPOINTING. If you want to add some security only allow calls from people that you have specifically allowed.I have had a lot of trouble getting the Horizon View 3.2.0 Client working on my freshly installed Ubuntu 14.10 64 bit. I fixed it with these settings which tested and worked fine.ĭo your self a favor a set up a few security settings. I am using a Logitech USB headphone but for some reason the audio initially only came from the laptop speakers. I found Skype a little tricky with my audio on the laptop. At the least you must edit the sound devices for Skype. You will need access to the root account to install.Įdit Sound Devices. The Package Installer will install the necessary 20 programs to get Skype going. In the upper right hand corner of the Desktop you will see the audio icon, be sure to test and verify you can hear sound. While it is installing check your audio, headset what ever you are going to use so that you know they work. Open with GDebi package Installer, you will see the option with a right click.

You will need to download the programs that are out of date for Ubuntu. Quite frankly, I am not sure they give a rip about Linux users as the state of their programs for install is way behind. In order to install Skype, it is not in the repository, you must go to the Skype web site. Since I have a Skype account and a new install of Ubuntu 9.04 I thought it would make sense to get Skype going.
